(Sorry for the delay. I have been on travel, and just not getting
caught up on email)
The FT User's Guide has some information on working with the 'self'
checkpoint component. The document can be found attached to the
following wiki page:

The main part is that there are some functions that your application
must define that the 'self' component looks for in the binary. If it
finds the functions then it will call them around a checkpoint event.
Unfortunately I do not have an example program that uses the 'self'
component in a state that I can send out at the moment. I can make
one, but it will likely take me a little while before I can get around
to it.
